Newport News, VA – November 7, 2018 – Calspan Systems Corporation in Newport News, Virginia has been awarded a $6 million contract from Siemens Government Technologies, Inc. to upgrade the US Army’s Helicopter Blade Balance Stand located at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas. The stand is used to perform dynamic balancing of rotor blades that enable flight across the Army’s fleet of Black Hawk helicopters. Over the next two years Calspan will design and integrate a new drive system as well as upgrade the electronic controls and data acquisition systems of the test stand to improve current system reliability and uptime, as well as enhance the safety of personnel required to perform balancing in the surrounding area.
“This award allows us to continue supporting the upgrade of our national defense infrastructure, while expanding our experience in rotor systems testing,” said Calspan Systems President, Stephanie Mumford. “We are very pleased to support the Siemens team on this project.”
