Calspan is thrilled to be exhibiting at the Automotive Testing Expo again this year, from October 22-24 in Novi, MI. The event brings together automotive testing professionals, suppliers, and engineers from around the world who are experts in the automotive testing industry. A Rich History of Providing Innovation
Calspan has been a pioneer in automotive safety research since the 1950’s. Establishing different ways of testing various automotive parts and components which ultimately lead to creating technologies that are still used in modern vehicles. When local owners, John Yurtchuk and Lou Knotts purchased the company in 2005, they committed to providing the best facilities to provide crashworthiness and safety testing to current and future customers. The campus is now home to North America’s most capable full vehicle crash test lab, named 2018 Crash Test Facility of the Year by Automotive Testing Technology International, as well as the world’s most powerful flat track tire testing machine, and internationally recognized HYGE sled. Calspan’s long standing relationships with manufacturers and international regulatory bodies including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Euro NCAP, Latin NCAP, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) allows for insight into the best testing practices for executing tests and upgrading facilities. Calspan leadership exudes a willingness to make investments in support of customer needs which includes specific equipment and facility upgrades to accomplish projects like large vehicle development programs, unique tests, and new test equipment development.

Calspan’s unique testing facilities are routinely utilized to validate simulation models, support verification to industry protocols, and aid in the development of safety restraint components and new vehicles.
Calspan’s impressive crash test facility features a massive, fully enclosed, climate controlled and highly secure operation that was designed specifically to support new vehicle development. Located directly across the street from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, the campus is easily accessible by new vehicle OEMs and startup companies to execute both non-destructive SLED and destructive crash tests precisely, accurately and rapidly all on one campus.
