Buffalo, N.Y. – January 20, 2020

Calspan will be exhibiting at the 2020 SAE Government/Industry Meeting which will be held in Washington D.C. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center January 22-24, 2020. Attending this annual event is part of Calspan’s commitment to serve global innovators who work to make transportation safer for all.

This technical conference brings together government policy and regulatory makers, auto industry experts, and academic institutions for networking and technical information sharing related to vehicle safety. At the conference, attendees can speak with Calspan representatives about their test needs, proposed crash test protocols, current compliance and NCAP tests, and learn about Calspan’s full vehicle crash test and SLEDlaboratories.

Calspan’s unique testing facilities are routinely utilized to validate simulation models, support verification to industry protocols, and aid in the development of safety restraint components and new vehicles.

State-of-the-Art Vehicle Crash Test Facility Capabilities

January 2020 marks the second anniversary of the opening of Calspan’s new state-of-the-art crash laboratory, deemed the “Crash Test Facility of the Year” two years in a row! This massive, fully enclosed, climate controlled and highly secure facility, located directly across the street from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, was designed specifically to support new vehicle development. As such, everything required to execute crash tests precisely, accurately and rapidly is all within one building. This fully comprehensive testing facility features a MESSRINGpropulsion system, MicroTrack and multiple high-resolution load cell wall, as well as separate and secure test vehicle preparation bays, private customer rooms, an ATD certification laboratory, and a secure shipping and receiving dock.

Calspan works closely with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and currently holds contracts to perform Research, FMVSS 213, FMVSS 214, FMVSS 301, FMVSS 305, and NCAP testing. Stop by booth #8 to further discuss these and other new protocols with Calspan and find out how to get your products crash tested and approved for use.

SLED Testing Capabilities

Calspan’s HYGE acceleration SLED is capable of component testing including body-in-white, seat & restraint system, and accessories that may be added to a vehicle such as roof racks, juvenile accessories, and other large specialized equipment such as ambulance cots. SLED testing can create the same G-force and speeds that occur during a vehicle crash, providing innovators a more cost effective and non-destructive method to test their product.
