12/15/2022 – Calspan, a world leader in mobility safety and performance, and Link Engineering Company (LINK), a premier provider of customized testing equipment, are thrilled to announce they are joining forces to develop new, advanced technologies for tire testing.

The partnership leverages decades of experience; Calspan’s expertise in tire testing and research with LINK’s leadership in designing innovative test equipment for the transportation industry.

Mark Parisi, Vice President of Mobility Safety & Performance, noted, “We are excited to partner with Link Engineering and take an active role in tire test equipment design and sales. As the performance demands evolve with mobility, Link Engineering and Calspan are well positioned to provide solutions for the world-leading OE’s, tire manufacturers, and supporting suppliers in the automotive industry.”

The automotive industry continues its evolution toward electric and automated vehicles focusing on performance, safety, and sustainability.  Electric vehicles are more demanding on tires in terms of load, torque, tread wear, noise, vibration, and harshness. How these dynamics impact vehicle tire emissions and handling is an essential topic of focus in the industry.

Adam Link, Vice President of Equipment & Managing Director for Link Engineering Company, stated, "LINK is looking forward to working closely with Calspan to develop cutting-edge tire testing solutions. We are eager to create a new path in the tire and wheel end sectors to meet the needs of the automotive industry. Combining Calspan’s engineering know-how with LINK’s ability to design and manufacture test equipment will open the door for innovation.”

The Calspan Tire Testing division will dedicate resources and technical sales support to enhance its partnership with LINK. This partnership will allow Calspan to provide additional services to customers without disrupting their daily tire research testing.

“This partnership helps our customers get better data faster, enabling more virtual development and reducing time to market,” added Henning Olsson, Calspan’s Senior Director of Technology.

Calspan will acquire a Cleat Testing Machine from LINK to expand its equipment portfolio. The Cleat Testing Machine provides testing for ride and comfort studies for tire modeling. The machine has received great praise from the industry for its high-quality and accurate data. The machine will be installed in the Calspan Tire Test Lab in Buffalo, NY, within the next few months.
