Emerald Room, June 18th 11:30 am – 12:00 pm

On June 18, 2019, Calspan Senior Aeronautical Engineer, Dr. Tyler Davis, will present at the 2019 AIAA Aviation Forum in Dallas, Texas. The AIAA Aviation Forum is the only event that brings together the entire integrated spectrum of aviation business, research & development, and technology. The focus of the 2019 forum is to explore how rapidly changing technology and emerging trends are shaping a future which promises to be strikingly different from the modern, global transportation built by our pioneers. This event will take place from June 17-21.

Calspan has been testing models in its wind tunnel since the 1940s. Many new technologies, theories, and advances in the aerospace industry have been developed through countless hours of testing in our subsonic/transonic wind tunnel located in Buffalo, NY. Our long-standing commitment to providing the highest quality data to our customers has been the driving force behind many investments made to our infrastructure and staff, allowing for continual improvement and internal research and development projects. The recent research Dr. Davis completed is a testament to this commitment of excellence.

At the conference, Dr. Davis will present on his review of transonic wall interference corrections and considerations for future development. His presentation compiles a significant amount of literature concerning transonic wall interference data corrections and details 19 major transonic facilities, reviewing test section size, shape, wall porosity type and amount, and wall interference correction methods used. His presentation identifies key elements of a modern wall interference correction system and forms the basis to determine whether a wall interference correction system is needed for transonic facilities.

Calspan’s Transonic Wind Tunnel is a continuous flow, variable density, closed-circuit wind tunnel testing facility with an 8 x 8 foot test section. Test conditions are achieved through independent control of Mach number and one other pressure-dependent variable to provide testing in the following areas:

Dr. Davis’s presentation on transonic wall interference will take place on June 18th at the AIAA Aviation Forum. He will be located in the Emerald room of the Hilton Anatole from 11:30 am – 12:00 pm.

CALLING ALL YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Calspan is excited to be a part of another AIAA “Meet the Employers” event. Meet members of our staff at the meet and greet session Sunday, June 16 from 5 – 6:30 pm in the Wedgewood Ballroom. If you can’t make it to the first session or want to learn more, Calspan will also have representation at the HUB in the exposition hall from 9-10 am on Wednesday, June 19.
